More Photo's

I’ve added some more photo’s. Amongst them are a few made at “Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland” This name gives you the impression of a themepark, complete with rollercoasters and the lot. Right? Think again.

We arrive at Wai-O-Tapu Thursday afternoon. The sky is dark, laden with foreboding. Outside of the entrace to the park, a fumarole is emitting a foul odor, a hint of what awaits us. I should have taken the hint.

As soon as we enter the park, rain begins to fall. I’ve never been hurt by a bit of rain, so I doesn’t really worry me. What I’m going to find out soon though, is that we’re not the only ones that dislike the rain. The various mud pools, fumaroles and the like, aptly described by names like “Devils’ Inkpots”, react wildly. They start to emit even more smoke and the vile stench that was present from the start becomes unbarable. The famous “Champagne Pool” is breathing so heavily it’s foul, poisenous, murky breath, smelling of burnt rubber and rotten eggs, that it itself has become invisible.

The rotten stench had almost gotten the better of me. What a rotten end, dying amidst these fumes. I was glad when we were able to leave the park. Don’t believe me? Just check out the most recent photo’s in the gallery. I only know that I don’t want to ever return here.
